Technical Diving is diving other than conventional commercial or research diving that takes divers beyond recreational diving limits. It is further defined as and includes one or more of the following: diving beyond 40 metres/130 feet, required stage decompression, diving in an overhead environment beyond 40 linear metres/130 feet of the surface, accelerated decompression, and/or the use of variable gas mixtures during the dive.
Discover Tec Course
The PADI TecRec Discover Technical diving course allows you to try Technical Diving by discovering the technical equipment and differing diving techniques used for decompression diving. During the course you will have the time to familiarize and acquaint yourself with the set of full technical equipment and you will take a quick theory session during which the relevant diving techniques and practices will be explained and go for a fun dive in a confined or limited open water environment not deeper than 10m. Should all the performance requirements are met then Discover Tec program may be contributed to the beginning of the PADI TecRec diving courses.
Prerequisites
+18 years of age
OWD level
10 logged dives
Padi Tec 40
The Padi Tec 40 Technical diving course is the first subdivision of the PADI Deep Diver course and it bridges the gap between no stop diving and technical deep decompression diving. You will learn the methods to use decompression software and dive computers to plan and execute deco dives up to 40m with no more than 10 minutes of total deco time and also to use a single cylinder of deco gas with up to 50% oxygen (EANx50) in order to add conservatism to the required decompression.
Prerequisites
+18 years of age
AOWD level
EANx diver with at least 10 dives using EANx deeper than 18m
Deep diver or proof of at least 10 dives to 30m
PADI Tec 45
The PADI Tec 45 Technical Diving course introduces the Tec 40 divers to the first stages of full, technical deep deco diving. Once certified you will be qualified to make multistep deco dives by using a single cylinder of EANx or oxygen for accelerated decompression and added conservatism. This is a course where you will rise to the challenge and make commitment to become a technical diver and as such the course not only develops the knowledge and skills to make open circuit technical dives up to 45m but also begins developing the knowledge and skills the diver will need at the Tec 50 level and beyond.
Prerequisites
PADI Tec 40 diver
Rescue Diver level
PADI Tec 50
The PADI Tec 50 course completes your training as an entry-level Tec diver by taking you past the limits of recreational diving. During training you will make actual decompression dives as deep as 50 metres by using EANx and/or oxygen for decompression and desk top software to generate custom dive tables to plan the dives. Once certified you will know how to make extended, accelerated decompression stops using up to two gases and you will be qualified to make technical decompression dives independently. It is not easy to reach this level of Technical diving but the Tec 50 certification opens the door to deeper diving expeditions. A college credit may be obtained for the PADI Tec 50 course.
Prerequisites
PADI Tec 45 diver
Minimum of 100 logged dives with at least 20 on EANx deeper than 18m 15 dives deeper than 30m
+18 years old
Medical Statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months
PADI Tec 65 Trimix course
The PADI Tec 65 Trimix course is the introduction of Tec 50 divers to the first stages of full technical Trimix decompression diving. Certified Tec Trimix 65 divers are qualified to make multi-gas decompression dives using normoxic (<18%) trimix, EANx and oxygen with up to two gases for accelerated decompression. This course extends and expands the skills of the Tec 50 diver and develops new strategies for overcoming oxygen and nitrogen gas limitations for deep decompression diving. Training dives are limited to 65 meters.
Prerequisites
PADI Tec 50 diver
100 logged dives
+18 years old
Medical Statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months
PADI Tec Trimix course
This is the course that turns experienced Tec divers into extreme divers as it leads them to the outer edges of technical diving and takes them to full/advanced deep Trimix decompression competency. Certified Tec Trimix divers are qualified to make multi-gas decompression dives using hypoxic (<18%) trimix, EANx and oxygen. Training dives are limited to 90 metres and once certified divers will be ready to plan and execute dives to new pristine dive sites that only few divers –if any- ever see.
Prerequisites
Tec 65 Diver
Minimum 150 logged dives
+18 years old
Medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months
